Skyscraper's lean
(after Sandburg)
The skyscraper's lean solemn,
drink low bitter and talk
about Gulf war visions
and stories of youth.
Yet they were never young,
nor did they fight, but
conjure stories of these times.
"The things I've seen," they whisper, "I'll never
forget," and show me store
bought medals while I pull them
another pint.
